In 2014 Katie and Mark Hale established Spec Services after leaving the super yacht industry to settle in Canberra.
Part of their work on super yachts involved cleaning to a very high standard and leaving the yachts in immaculate condition for their high value customers. Attention to detail and speed was vital in creating exceptional first impressions and maintaining the yacht owner’s reputation.
Mark, the Captain of the 60.35-metre super yacht Blue Moon and Katie, the Chief Stewardess recognised that these standards of excellent customer service were directly transferrable to the cleaning industry and have since been on a journey of delivering exceptional cleaning services to commercial and construction clients in Australia.

2012 AUGUST
Spec Services Owners, Mark and Katie returned from working on Super Yachts and move to Canberra
2014 AUGUST
Established Ideal Cleaning
2015 JULY
Won our first construction cleaning project – AXIAL Apartments (BLOC Constructions)
2016 JULY
Won the very first commercial cleaning contract – ACT Law courts (Laing O’Rourke)
2016 NOVEMBER
Rebranded Ideal Domestic Cleaning to Spec Services; Hired our first Indigenous employee – Mick Kennedy
2017 AUGUST
Formed a partnership with Jingili Group
2018 SEPTEMBER
Hired four full time supervisors
2019 OCTOBER
Established our Biological Division
2020 JUNE
Increased the Spec Services team to 140 staff
2020 JULY
Established our Sustainable Waste Management Division; Launched Alloc8; Moved to our new office at Fyshwick, ACT
2020 AUGUST
Established our Spec Indigenous Division
2020 SEPTEMBER
Won our first contract outside of the ACT

Won our first Government tender

Awarded the Final Clean on The Store development on Hunter Street Newcastle

Spec Services featured in the Australian National Construction Review for the work completed on Geocon’s High Society Development
2021 JULY
Partnered with Indigenous Artist Danielle Mate and B-Promo to create a bespoke Spec Indigenous logo and artwork to be featured on uniforms
2021 AUGUST
Spec Services complete a record number of COVID-19 Deep cleans during the ACT lockdown & featured in the Canberra Times

First Reconciliation Week Consultation with Spec Services First Nations Crew – defining our Vision for Reconciliation included in our innovate Reconciliation Action Plan

Spec Services commit to transitioning to a fully electric fleet with two Tesla model 3 EV the first to be purchased

First Start to Finish Project at The Foundry Adamstown Newcastle; starting with amenities cleaning on site sheds, COVID Marshal during lockdown, Final Clean Package for BLOC Construction and finally the ongoing commercial cleaning contract with Lake Group Strata on the finished building
