Definition of “Contaminant” by Spec Services: A contaminant is any unwanted substance, material, or impurity that is introduced into a system, environment, or surface, potentially causing harm, degradation, or interference with the intended function or cleanliness of that system. Contaminants can be physical (e.g., dust, dirt, debris), chemical (e.g., oils, solvents, toxins), biological (e.g., bacteria, mold, viruses), or radiological in nature. In technical cleaning, the goal is to identify and remove contaminants to restore or maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the area or equipment.
